Conflict is an every day thin, it's how conflict is handled that is important. This shows how professional a person can be, and that's what an interviewer is looking for with this question.
Part a: Tips to answer a conflict question
1. Remember the STAR approach when going into a conflict question.
2. Pick an example that's genuine.
3. Explain that you're able to handle conflicts
4. Pay attention when explaining how to come out with a win-win.
5. Show them how you customize your approach depending on the person.
6. Elaborate on how you constructively deal with the situation, but avoid examples where you quit, or get in a fight.
7. Don't be negative towards anyone, no matter the situation. This includes co-workers, bosses and customers as well.
8. Keep it short and to he point.
9. Practice your answer, but don't memorize a speech so you still appear genuine.
Part b: Sample answers
I noticed a co-worker having trouble, so I sat down with them to find out what was going on. I let them know I was concerned, and we talked out our biggest issues with each other and we worked out a compromise. This helped us figure out what we could prioritize, and what could be given up to help both of us move forward.
